I was a little worried the Beagle might be an old wreck, but I was really pleasantly surprised. It's not a luxurious apartment but everything you need is there and it is indeed a real cosy place, with a lot of character. I liked the idea of staying on a houseboat and it worked out for all of us (4 friends from Toronto)
If you want to experience Amsterdam as the locals do, I would absolutely recommend this.

First impressions aren’t the best because the Beagle is run down and looking tired; she soon grows on you though and we found it to be a great cosy place to stay. The view over the canal from the main cabin with the NEMO and the VOC ship Amsterdam as a backdrop is excellent. We hired bikes for the 4 days we were in Amsterdam and felt that we had a great family Amsterdam experience living on the water and cycling around the city. Definitely recommend as a place to stay with lots of character.
