The museum of bags and purses is a unique museum with a collection covering the Western bag that rangers from the Middle Ages (16th century) trough to the present. It is the only museum in the world that can boast so extensive and specialized a collection.

The collection:
The museum’s collection is very diverse, and consists of more than 3,500 bags, pouches, suitcases, purses and accessories. The bags in the collection give a fascinating picture of the great variety of function, form, kind martial and sorts of decoration used trough the centuries.
The collection has been praised in the Netherlands and abroad for its range and variety. The museum contributes to and cooperates with national and international exhibitions, and is recognized as one of the eight most important fashion museums in the world.

Exhibitions:
Visitors will be able to see regular themed exhibitions, as well as the historical collection. The museum also pays a role in stimulating Dutch and international designers by organizing exhibitions of their work, and by selling their work in the museums shop and at the web shop.

The building:
The museum is situated in an historical building dating to 1664. It has a café and a garden laid out in historical style by the well-known garden designer Robert Broekema. The building has two fine period rooms used for receptions, with mantelpieces dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries.
